This could happen to you
This is what happens when one only crows about THE MEDIA (the big word that we often brandish and feel oh so contemporary, so, so postmodern).
This is what happens when we let our politicians wreak havoc.
“I don’t understand politics” what a lame excuse.
Apathy is GREAT. Its terror is omnipotent.
Please do not read the news about the Middle East. Read your own countries’ news.
Be prepared.

are we having a private conversation?
I do not think it is good advice not to read the news of other countries' but rather to consider the way in which you read it - and thus, respond to it.
If you read the news to make chitchat, perhaps a war is not the subject to focus on - but surely there are other things going on in the world as well - let's not forget that. Or how such 'news' (and is what you're reading 'news' or 'commentary'?), regardless of where it originated, will affect you (will it even?).
Further, if we read the news understanding the way the 'MEDIA' uses itself (the greatest whore of all) we are less likely to respond in they way it desires us too, thus escaping the vise gripe of such an abstract thing.
Be prepared yes, but be aware first.
Well of course u Should read other countries' news nippy.
'be aware first'
know whats happening in your country first, where u have at least some power to change.
You must excuse any daftness in that particular comment...perhaps the thantedness has not yest filtered from my body...
Though I am not so sure 'power to change' is restricted to ones own country. Though it is probably most often true that changes from the inside are the most lasting.
